Kevin Keegan was a legendary footballer that ended his illustrious career at Newcastle United. Keegan is currently enjoying his second spell as manager of the Tyneside club and is immensely popular in the North East.
Europe's biggest regional airline, Flybe, has announced that it has named one of its aircraft in honour of the footballing legend. Keegan unveiled the aircraft that bears his name at a ceremony at Newcastle International Airport.
Flybe's 78-seat Bombardier Q400 aircraft, Kevin Keegan, is one of the most environmentally friendly planes as it offers 30 per cent improved fuel efficiency to comparative aircraft.
Keegan stated "Newcastle has always been a special place for me and, where my career is concerned, the fans and the city have all given me so much, so I'm naturally absolutely thrilled that Flybe is also honouring them with this unique aircraft".
The plane will be used on the regular service from Newcastle International Airport to London Gatwick. Keegan adds "The North East is a football-mad region and it's a good feeling to know local people will now be able to fly to London on an aircraft dedicated to Newcastle United".
